Untitled #153

The site-specific "Untitled, 153" is based on TIME, SPACE and COLOR. Three elements are constantly present in Alois Kronschlaeger's oeuvre. It is installed in Asia Beach, two and a half hours by car from Lima. It took a team of 4 people for two ten-hour days. The starting point of the installation is a custom-made aluminium connector. This connector was specifically designed and custom-made in Long Island, NY, for this artwork.

The connector is constructed of three pieces:

(1) A bottom ring connector is 18 mm deep and 50 mm wide. This connector is screwed to the brick wall with a total of 306 holes -one hundred and fifty-three times, times two screws.

(2) an aluminium sphere with a diameter of 30 mm. The hexagonal aluminium rods are attached to an opening in the sphere, allowing 360-degree movement to each connector.

(3) a top ring connector of 5 mm deep and 50 mm wide. The top connector has two special stainless-steel screws with a counter sunk screw-head to bring a cleaner and stylized look to the piece.

The aluminium hexagonal bars consist of 5 oven-baked applied colours, and one side is the raw material with a mirror-polished finish. This mirror finish is facing upwards, always in the sun's direction. To the right of the polished mirror finish is purple, and green to the left. Next to the green goes the orange. Next to the purple goes yellow. The sky blue is always juxtaposed with the aluminium mirror polished side.

The distance between each one of the 153 connectors is 30 cm. The wall is mapped out into 30 cm grid increments. The installation began at the centre of the wall, drilling the first connector. Every 30 cm, another connector was installed, and the entire 6 x 4 meters wall was covered. Before the sunlight illuminates the wall (around 10:55 am), its rays reflect on the mirrored polished side of the aluminium bar and project bright reflected lines on the wall. This spectacle continues throughout the day, with the projected and shadow lines in constant flux.

"Untitled, 153" is based on a combination of 3 lines:

(1) The line projected by the mirror polished aluminium before the sun hits the wall.

(2) The lines of shadows cast by the sun

(3) The lines of the hexagonal rods in space. These 3 lines are constantly fluctuating throughout the day.
